My Story

You are here:

Originally from Texas, USA, I moved to the United Kingdom in 2002 and now live in Wales, UK, with my husband, two Airedale Terriers, an acre of garden and woodland.

While growing up in Texas, I learnt from an early age how to sew from my mother, making my own clothes, and watching my grandmothers and great grandmother knit, needlepoint, crochet and quilt. These experiences developed in me a love of wool as well as the different weaves and textures in fabric along with what could be created out of them.

During a trip to Maine in 2014, I came across traditional rug hooking, later discovering punch needle while taking a beginners course in Nottingham, UK.  My passion for this craft continued to grow after taking a course with Amy Oxford at the Reeth Rug School, Yorkshire, UK.   What really hooked me was how easy it was to learn, and how quickly the projects worked up.  As a result, I had the great opportunity to go to The Oxford Rug Hooking School in Cornwall, Vermont USA, and became qualified as an Oxford Punch Needle Instructor in June, 2019.

Along with my years of experience as a licensed and accredited mental health counsellor, I have been able to link this craft with a type of mindful practice, as it has its own rhythm and lends space to taking time for myself.  I am so excited to now have the professional qualification and a platform through which I can share and teach this traditional craft that I love, while helping others find a mindful place for their creative spirit.

I continue to learn and glean from the creative people around me and the online community.  I am member of the Oxford Certified Punch Needle Instructors Guild, Pembrokeshire Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, and a volunteer at the National Wool Museum in Drefach Felindre, Ceredigion, Wales.

To see my creative spirit at work, learn about upcoming events, courses and drop-in sessions, please take time to further explore my website and follow me on FB and Instagram.  I want you to experience the same joy and passion for this craft that I have found.

Happy punching and hooking!
